Digital radiographs are a technological advancement that results in less exposure to radiation for our patients and an almost instantaneous picture for our dentists. Unlike traditional, film-based x-rays, digital x-rays often show more detail and can be archived in our system for future reference and comparison. You will appreciate a more comfortable visit with less waiting and quicker treatment. And, since they require no film, digital x-rays use less materials and produce less waste, making them an important part of our focus on operating an eco-friendly office.
Q: I know I need X-Rays, but I'd prefer to not be exposed to radiation.
A: Digital X-Rays use less radiation and are safer for you than traditional film X-Rays. More importantly though, are the benefits of being able to diagnose early so that disease can be treated before pain occurs. You will find that at Summit Dental, we research the latest trends in technology to find the solutions that promote your overall health, safety and comfort.
An intraoral camera lets you see inside your mouth during both treatment planning and dental procedures. Our intraoral camera displays your teeth on a video screen, allowing Dr. Johnson to walk you through your proposed treatment. The use of this camera allows us to work with you as a team to meet your dental care goals. We are happy to answer any questions you may have and discuss your treatment options with you. We want you to picture how your appearance will improve with dental care, giving you all the more reason to smile.
Digital photography gives Dr. Johnson instant images to use for cosmetic imaging or to keep on file to track your progress. Digital images can be saved electronically and are more efficient than traditional photographs that show less detail and must be taken off-site for development. By using digital imaging instead of film-based photography, we are able to operate a greener, more efficient practice.
In the past, you may have experienced a dental treatment that required the dentist to take an impression of your teeth – a slow, messy process. The digital scanner not only eliminates that process for most procedures, it also produces a much higher quality, 3D scan of your teeth. This phenomenal machine takes digital images of your teeth and translates them into a model using CAD-Cam technology, enhancing your comfort as well as your overall experience.
Caesy Education System
The Caesy Education System allows Dr. Johnson to used detailed drawings and animations to show you exactly what your teeth will look like if left untreated, and what they will look like after recommended treatment. You can view short presentations about treatment procedures, including before and after-care. The Caesy Education System allows you to understand and participate in planning your dental care with Dr. Johnson.
Periodontal disease (also called gum disease or gingivitis) refers to the infection of the supportive tissues of the mouth due to toxic bacteria found in plaque. Many individuals suffer from some degree of gum disease, and if left untreated, gum disease will cause tooth loss, break down of the soft tissue in the mouth and jaw and other significant health problems. Dr. Johnson assesses your periodontal health and if needed, conducts the appropriate therapy to restore gums and supportive tissues.
Q: My teeth and gums don't hurt so why should I see the dentist?
A: Gum Disease and dental decay are silent diseases until it is too late. PREVENTION, PREVENTION, PREVENTION, PREVENTION IS the best way to keep teeth.
Many individuals clinch or grind their teeth in their sleep. Not only does this cause damage to teeth, it can also lead to headaches, tension in the neck and shoulders and even snoring or difficulty breathing. A nightguard is a flexible mouthpiece, customized by Dr. Johnson, which protects your teeth and jaw while you sleep.
You can have your wisdom teeth removed comfortably and easily by Dr. Johnson in the Summit Dental facility.
